Underwater Observatory
The main highlight of Busena Marine Park is its underwater observatory. Visitors can descend into the observatory, which is located about 170 meters offshore, and get a close-up view of Okinawa’s vibrant marine life. The observatory has large windows that provide panoramic views of the underwater world, including colorful coral reefs, tropical fish, and other marine creatures. It’s a fantastic opportunity for non-divers and snorkelers to experience the beauty of Okinawa’s marine ecosystem.
Ticket price: Adult 1,050yen / Child 4 years old and older 530yen / 3 years and younger FREE
The purchase of your ticket at the Observatory is used to maintain the facility and you can stay as long as you would like. However, the actual viewing room is rather small, so please be aware if you are not fond of narrow spaces.
You will first walk across the long bridge over the ocean. The view is absolutely beautiful! However if you are traveling with little ones who are excitable, be sure to either use a baby carrier or a stroller over the bridge. You will need to leave the stroller at the entrance of the Observatory to go down the stairs.
Above the view ports, there are pictures of local fish that you can try to search for with your children. You can also view the coral reef and the bottom of the ocean floor.
They even have a live camera set up to view the ocean floor from their website!
Glass-Bottom Boat Tours
In addition to the observatory, Busena Marine Park offers glass-bottom boat tours. These tours allow visitors to enjoy the underwater scenery without getting wet. The glass-bottom boats have transparent floors, providing a clear view of the marine life beneath. The tour guide will give explanations in Japanese only, but the view is beautiful on clear days.
Above the glass floor of the boat there are some posters with different kinds of fish that can be found on the tour. You can use these as a guide to encourage your children or yourself to find as many as you can!
